Europium: Europium is used as a phosphor in all TVs and computer screens to create red and blue light, and when combined with green Terbium phosphors, trichromatic fluorescent lighting is created. Europium isotopes are the best known neutron absorbers and therefore the element is ideal for control rods in nuclear reactors. The element is also used in fluorescent light bulbs, alloys, as an agent in fluorescent glass, and to dope plastic and glass to make lasers. Gadolinium: When added to iron, chromium, or related alloys, gadolinium greatly improves the workability and raises resistance to high temperature oxidization. It is also utilized in microwave applications, CDs, computer memory devices, MRI image enhancing, neutron radiography, and for making phosphors in TV tubes. One final use of Gadolinium comes in nuclear reactors as an emergency shut-down mechanism. Terbium: Terbium is used in colour TV tubes and fluorescent lamps as a green phosphor. In combination with Europium blue and red phosphors, the three create trichromatic fluorescent lighting, which is much brighter than conventional fluorescent lighting. Another green application for Terbium can be found in combination with neodymium for production of the world’s most heat resistant super magnets. The element is also used in alloys, crystal stabilizers in fuel cells that operate at high temperatures, specialty lasers, and to dope calcium fluoride, sodium borate and strontium molybdate materials. Terbium is a component of Terfenol-D, a material that is used in transducers, high-precision liquid fuel injectors and in a new form of audio equipment that has the potential to revolutionize the speaker industry. Dysprosium: Dysprosium’s thermal neutron absorption cross-section and high melting point enables it to be used in nuclear control applications. The element can be added to Neodymium-iron-boron magnets to raise the strength and corrosion resistance of applications like drive motors for hybrid electric vehicles. Like Terbium, Dysprosium is a component of Terfenol-D; a very promising material for future technology applications. It is also used in CDs, chemical reaction testing, laser materials, and dosimeters ......and the list goes on and on...

Stans Energy Corp./REE

About Stans Energy Stans Energy Corp. is a resource development company focused on progressing Heavy Rare Earth (HRE) properties in areas of the Former Soviet Union. In December 2009, Stans acquired a 20-year mining license for the past-producing Kutessay II rare earth mine from the Kyrgyz Republic. On May 26, 2011 Stans completed the purchase of the Kashka Rare Earth Processing Plant (KRP) the same plant that previously refined REEs historically from Kutessay II. The KRP was the only hard rock plant to produce all rare earth elements outside of China, producing 120 different metals, alloys, and oxides. For over 30 years, Kutessay II produced 80% of the rare earth metals for the former Soviet Union. We seek safe harbour 8 King Street West Toronto,Ontario Rare Earth Elements (REEs) are any of the abundant metallic elements of atomic number 57 through 71, plus Scandium and Yttrium, of which the oxides are classified as rare earths. REEs have unique physical and chemical properties and are irreplaceable components of many advanced electronic devices, products for energy efficiency, and innovations focused on reducing greenhouse gases. As such they are essential to many of the world’s emerging green technologies. REEs are divided into two groups – Light Rare Earth Elements (LREEs), and Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREEs). HREEs are extremely rare in economic quantities, and therefore they are more valuable than the more common LREEs. The United States Geological Survey has predicted that most critical REOs in terms of future supply versus expected demand are Yttrium (Y), Dysprosium (Dy), Terbium (Tb), Neodymium (Nd), and Europium (Eu). Based on the breakdown of REOs contained within the Kutessay II deposit and their respective oxide prices, these critical elements, with the exception of Europium, are likely to represent the majority of Kutessay II’s value. The current world REEs supply is exported almost exclusively from China, but the Chinese demand for these elements is projected to match the domestic supply in the near future. If the projected demand for REEs comes to fruition, the rest of the world will be forced to secure its own strategic supply. In short, the near-term production of REEs located outside of China will be a crucial step in creating a greener future for the entire planet

Capitalist Russia

Moscow, Russia
In the span of 17 years, Russia has gone from a state-controlled command economy to a stable, growing and rapidly maturing market-oriented economy. Today, it is one of the world’s largest economies with a GDP of $1.4 trillion.
However, in 2009, because of the financial crisis Russia’s GDP decreased by 7.9%. During the 6 previous years, due to buoyant household demand and business investment driving output in the construction, manufacturing and services sectors, the country enjoyed strong economic growth (ranging from 5.6 to 8.1 percent annually).
During this growth period per capita incomes were rising and its middle class has become a more significant force in the national economy. Russia's future accession to the WTO, which Russia has declared it is now seeking as a single customs bloc with Belarus and Kazakhstan, should provide better access for Canadian products and services as well as improved rule-based and transparent business climate.
European and East Asian countries are increasingly viewing Russia as a key economic partner. Russia's economy is expected to rebound with the global economic recovery, in line with outlooks in commodity prices. Russia's newly strong private sector will be a contributing factor, with the government playing an assertive role through regulation and public corporations. Moving forward, the country will need foreign capital, partnerships and technology to reach its full potential.
As Russia proceeds with the modernization of its industrial and agricultural infrastructure, opportunities will abound in transportation, infrastructure development and industrial equipment. There are also excellent export and investment opportunities in agriculture and agri-food, mining, forestry, housing, and information and communication technologies. Canadian companies wishing to capitalize on the opportunities Russia presents face a number of challenges, however, including competition from other foreign companies and differences in cultural and business practices
